Mapping nature's solutions to cancer and excavating novel disease pathways using thousands of species
Organisms have evolved over millions of years through endless struggles for survival. Genes and pathways emerged, were altered or lost, resulting in the evolution of extraordinary traits. These include resistance to cancer that recurrently evolved in different clades. In addition, the function of most human genes is still unclear, however many can be grouped into distinct clusters with tight correlated evolution across hundreds of species. Each of these genes’ clusters strongly hints of a functional association between the genes and, in many cases, the association is unexplored.
